Electrical Engineer - UG Transmission Senior-Principal-Staff (Underground Transmission)

Salary: $84,000–$177,000 per year, depending on engineering level. The stated compensation range is $87,633–$177,503 per year.

What you will do

• Lead end-to-end design and engineering of underground transmission lines from front-end engineering design through commissioning and energization.
• Develop duct bank, conduit, riser, transition structure, vault, manhole, and equipment interface designs for complex corridors, river crossings, interconnections, and station interfaces.
• Oversee cable joint and termination selection, installation, qualification, and workmanship for XLPE and fluid-filled systems.
• Perform cable route, installation, ampacity, thermal, and constructability analyses using CYMCAP or similar tools.
• Define and witness factory acceptance testing and lead commissioning, diagnostic, sheath integrity, cross-bonding, partial discharge, VLF, Hi-Pot, and TDR testing.
• Lead emergency restoration, fault location, forensic and root-cause analysis, corrective actions, supplier improvements, and transmission standards development.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited program, or an accepted combination of non-ABET bachelor’s degree with a relevant master’s degree or PhD.
• Relevant experience ranges from 2+ years for Engineer SG7, 4+ years for Senior SG8, 8+ years for Principal SG9, and 10+ years for Staff SG10, depending on education.
• Expertise in solid dielectric XLPE and self-contained or pipe-type fluid-filled cable systems, cable routes, installation constraints, and constructability.
• Experience with CYMCAP or similar cable ampacity modeling tools and thermal analysis.
• Experience with commissioning and post-installation testing, including VLF, Hi-Pot, offline partial discharge, sheath testing, cross-bonding verification, and TDR.
• Proficiency with MicroStation or AutoCAD and Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; a valid driver’s license is required. Infrequent overnight travel may be required.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineer registration in a U.S. state or Puerto Rico.
• Experience with hydraulic or nitrogen systems for fluid-filled cables and static pressure systems.
• Knowledge of geotechnical interpretation, soil borings, thermal backfill, grounding, shielding, line insulation, and EMF considerations.
• Familiarity with PLS CADD, PLS Pole, PLS Tower, enterprise supply chain processes, supplier relationships, and material blankets.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical reports, standards, and stakeholder engagement.
