Senior Engineer - Transmission Planning (Power Systems)

Location: Rochester, New York, United States; onsite in the office 5 days a week.

Salary: $100,000–$120,500 per year, depending on location and experience.

What you will do

• Perform and collaborate on steady-state, stability, short-circuit, transfer limit, and PV/QV power system studies.
• Model and analyze complex transmission systems across multiple voltage levels using industry-standard software.
• Scope studies, perform quality assurance, and deliver accurate technical work on schedule.
• Document results and recommendations through engineering reports, data representations, and presentations.
• Communicate with internal and external stakeholders and represent NYSEG and RG&E in national and regional forums.
• Identify process improvements, document best practices, support knowledge transfer, and assist with storm restoration when assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline.
• At least 5 years of industry experience related to transmission or distribution power system planning or operations.
• Advanced capability with steady-state power system modeling and simulation software such as TARA, PSS/E, PowerWorld, PSLF, or CYME.
• Knowledge of local, state, regional, and federal regulatory standards and compliance processes.
• Strong written, verbal, presentation, teamwork, and engineering documentation skills.
• Ability to scope and develop preliminary transmission project proposals.
