Engineer I, Process Control, Wood River Refinery (Refining)

Location: Roxana, Illinois, United States; onsite refinery work with up to 5% travel, extended hours, occasional on-call duties, and physical work in operating units.

Salary: $114,300–$139,700 per year

What you will do

• Configure, maintain, and optimize refinery DCS, PLCs, operator graphics, and related control systems.
• Troubleshoot control and instrumentation issues during normal operations, startups, shutdowns, and process upsets.
• Support the design, testing, implementation, maintenance, and upgrades of process control hardware and software.
• Analyze process and control data to improve reliability, performance, operability, and equipment control logic.
• Monitor alarm performance and support alarm management, rationalization, and nuisance-alarm reduction.
• Participate in process safety, Management of Change, hazard analyses, incident investigations, audits, and inspections.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and at least 1 year of relevant experience as a process, automation, controls, or similar engineer.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States; U.S. regular-position candidates must meet the stated citizenship, permanent-resident, refugee, asylee, or temporary-resident requirements.
• Visa sponsorship is not available, and candidates requiring current or future sponsorship are not eligible.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential.
• Ability to work safely around chemicals, hydrocarbons, high-pressure and high-temperature equipment, confined spaces, ladders, harsh weather, and personal protective equipment.
• Ability to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, occasional on-call shifts, and travel up to 5%.

Nice to have

• Three or more years of experience in process engineering, process control, automation, or controls engineering in refining, petrochemical, or manufacturing environments.
• Experience with refinery processes such as distillation, reforming, hydrotreating, alkylation, fluid catalytic cracking, hydrocracking, or sulfur recovery.
• Experience with Honeywell Experion DCS, SCADA interfaces, third-party PLCs, and Honeywell Dynamo alarm management tools.
• Knowledge of regulatory control, loop tuning, control logic development, alarm management, and advanced process control design.
• Experience delivering process control projects from design through startup and collaborating with vendors and cross-functional teams.
