Senior Electrical Engineer (Industrial Automation)

Location: Amherst, Virginia, USA; onsite

Salary range: $75,800–$170,100 per year, depending on the applicable U.S. labor-cost zone and job-related factors. The role is also eligible for incentive plans.

What you will do

• Own the design, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of low- and medium-voltage plant electrical distribution systems.
• Develop single-line diagrams, arc-flash studies, load calculations, protective-device coordination, and electrical safety practices.
• Serve as the technical authority for PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, VFDs, instrumentation, and industrial control systems.
• Manage automation upgrades, migrations, control logic, HMI screens, change management, and lifecycle planning.
• Own OT network architecture, segmentation, firewalls, VLANs, secure remote access, industrial networking hardware, and cybersecurity compliance.
• Lead reliability improvements, predictive and preventive maintenance, energy-efficiency initiatives, and approximately 15 annual capital and SWP projects totaling about $3.5M.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Controls, Automation Engineering, or a related technical field.
• At least 5 years of manufacturing or industrial experience.
• Hands-on experience with PLCs, HMIs, and industrial automation systems; Allen-Bradley/Rockwell experience is preferred.
• Strong troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and corrective-action skills across electrical, controls, and automation systems.
• Experience leading electrical or automation capital projects from planning through commissioning.
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations, lockout/tagout, arc-flash protection, and electrical safety standards.

Nice to have

• Allen-Bradley/Rockwell PLC programming and troubleshooting.
• Manufacturing Execution Systems experience.
• Knowledge of predictive maintenance, energy management, and power quality.
