TL;DR
Senior Spacecraft Avionics Systems Engineer (Aerospace/Avionics): Designing, integrating, and testing avionics systems for spacecraft supporting in-space manufacturing and hypersonic reentry with an accent on electrical architecture, fault mitigation, and mission readiness. Focus on building Hardware In The Loop testbeds, developing ground infrastructure, analyzing system risks, and supporting launch and reentry operations.

Location: On-site in El Segundo, California, United States

Salary: $140,333–$179,314 per year, plus potential stock options and/or long-term cash awards.

What you will do

  • Define avionics project scopes and requirements with cross-functional engineering teams, guiding designs from concept through production.
  • Develop electrical architectures, system diagrams, and resource budgets covering power, telemetry, channel count, size, and mass.
  • Analyze avionics faults and risks, create mitigation plans, and support Fault Detection, Isolation, and Recovery strategies.
  • Plan and execute verification for flight and Hardware In The Loop systems, including launch and reentry readiness testing.
  • Lead avionics integration investigations and participate in mission operations as an avionics specialist or system operator.
  • Design and operate HITL testbeds, ground infrastructure, test racks, and R&D equipment while improving test automation and mentoring engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in system design, test planning, and validation.
  • Proficiency in programming and debugging with Python.
  • Experience with power supplies, modular DAQ systems, RTD and 4–20 mA devices, and general test equipment.
  • Experience with avionics or vehicle electrical systems, HITL testbeds, configuration control, and system-level testing.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and qualify as a U.S. person under applicable export-control requirements.

Nice to have

  • Experience taking vehicle electrical systems from concept to operational production.
  • Familiarity with Unix environments and command-line utilities.
  • Experience developing test cases and equipment for vehicle operating conditions.
  • Strong project or program management skills.
  • Background in avionics hardware, FPGA engineering, electronics test engineering, or electrical systems engineering.
