Mid-Level Application Support Engineer – Linux/Windows, Scripting, Database, DevOps

Location: Porto, Portugal — hybrid. Candidates must have an existing legal right to work in the European Union.

What you will do

• Monitor and support Linux and Windows environments to maintain system performance and stability.
• Automate operational tasks and improve processes with Shell, Python, and PowerShell.
• Manage and troubleshoot Oracle, Sybase, SQL Server, and MySQL databases using SQL.
• Oversee infrastructure backups and recovery procedures for critical data.
• Use Zabbix and Grafana to detect, analyze, and resolve system issues proactively.
• Maintain infrastructure components, middleware platforms, and container-based deployment environments.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience in systems administration or application support.
• Strong knowledge of Linux and Windows system management.
• Experience with BMC, Control-M, or other industrial schedulers.
• Proficiency in Shell, Python, and/or PowerShell, plus hands-on database and SQL experience.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Zabbix or Grafana and basic networking concepts.
• Fluent English at minimum B2 level, fluent Portuguese, and an existing legal right to work in the EU.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of LDAP, firewalls, reverse proxies, Active Directory, and Kerberos.
• Experience with container orchestration and infrastructure automation.
• DevOps mindset and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.
