Associate Senior Liability Trial Attorney

Location: Melville, New York, United States; onsite role with court, deposition, appointment, and business travel as required

Annual base salary: $120,400–$198,700, plus eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What you will do

• Independently manage moderate- to high-complexity insurance defense litigation matters, including Major Case litigation depending on the line of business.
• Prepare cases for trial, try matters to verdict, and negotiate resolutions using pre-trial and trial litigation techniques.
• Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other substantive legal documents.
• Attend hearings, court events, depositions, and other proceedings; provide case analysis and handling recommendations to insured clients and Claims partners.
• Collaborate with expert witnesses and consultants to develop case strategies, evaluate technical matters, and prepare testimony.
• Build client and business-partner relationships, provide legal training and updates, mentor attorneys and support staff, and contribute to special projects.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate or equivalent international legal degree from an accredited law school.
• Active license in good standing to practice law in the state or states where representation is required.
• At least 4 years of experience as a practicing attorney; 5+ years of insurance defense litigation experience preferred.
• Experience handling hearings, trials, dispositive motion arguments, depositions, or other court proceedings, with the ability to travel to those meetings.
• Strong oral and written advocacy, legal research, negotiation, decision-making, case analysis, and relationship-management skills.
• A valid driver's license is required depending on the location.
