Electrical Engineer Substation Lead

Location: Binghamton, New York (Kirkwood), or Rochester, New York; office-based

Salary: $116,640–$145,800 per year, depending on experience.

What you will do

• Lead electrical engineering for major substation capital projects across scoping, budgeting, conceptual design, construction, and closeout.
• Perform standard and complex electrical engineering analyses, designs, calculations, and alternative design evaluations.
• Create conceptual designs and oversee external detailed designers and contractors.
• Review and approve engineering work for compliance with company standards, specifications, contracts, and applicable regulations.
• Provide technical leadership, resolve complex engineering problems, and support customer technical requests.
• Mentor department engineers and collaborate with project managers and cross-functional teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and at least 7 years of relevant experience.
• Expertise in physical substation design, project scoping and estimating, equipment specifications, construction and outage sequencing, and commissioning.
• Experience with AC/DC loading calculations, substation grounding, thermal ratings, lightning and transient analysis, insulation coordination, and substation equipment commissioning.
• Knowledge of engineering standards and specifications up to 345 kV, construction and maintenance standards, and local, state, and federal regulatory requirements.
• Ability to lead projects, review engineering work, manage competing priorities, communicate technical concepts, and work independently.
• Applicants must meet applicable United States immigration requirements to work in the country.
