TL;DR
TTI Assistant Research Scientist (Roadside Safety) (Engineering and crash testing): Conducting applied engineering research, simulation analyses, and crash testing to evaluate roadside safety devices with an accent on non-linear finite element modeling, research coordination, and technical reporting. Focus on designing and testing roadside safety features, managing multidisciplinary research projects, developing proposals, and presenting results to sponsors.

Location: Bryan, Texas, United States. Hybrid remote work is available, with two days per week in a TTI Texas-based office, increasing to three days starting September 1. The primary duty station is TTI Headquarters, and reporting there is required for the first 30 days.

Texas A&M Transportation Institute is a Texas state agency and member of The Texas A&M University System conducting transportation research, education, and technology transfer.

What you will do

  • Perform engineering and simulation analyses supporting the design and development of roadside safety devices.
  • Conduct crash testing to analyze and evaluate roadside safety features.
  • Plan, coordinate, schedule, and report phases of research and development projects.
  • Manage multidisciplinary teams of research staff, students, and support personnel.
  • Prepare technical reports, memoranda, literature reviews, presentations, and other research deliverables.
  • Develop externally funded research proposals and present results to sponsors and at conferences.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a relevant engineering field.
  • At least three years of related professional experience.
  • Experience with non-linear finite element modeling and simulation.
  • Experience designing and testing roadside safety devices.
  • Strong analytical, technical writing, communication, presentation, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Nice to have

  • Experience with LS-DYNA, HyperMesh, SolidWorks, or computer programming.
