Senior Research Associate, Chemistry R&D (Biotechnology)

Location: San Diego, California; on-site

Salary: $72,000–$85,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications

What you will do

• Synthesize modified nucleosides and nucleotides using modern organic chemistry techniques.
• Purify reaction products with preparative HPLC, flash chromatography, and other suitable methods.
• Characterize compounds using LC-MS, NMR, IR, UV/Vis, TLC, and related analytical techniques.
• Optimize reaction conditions and develop analytical methods to meet project quality requirements.
• Maintain electronic laboratory notebooks, manage compound inventories, and operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
• Analyze experimental data and present findings at project and departmental meetings.

Requirements

• B.S. or M.S. in organic chemistry, nucleotide/nucleic acid chemistry, bioorganic chemistry, or a related discipline.
• 5–8 years of relevant industry experience after a B.S. or 2–4 years after an M.S.
• Hands-on experience with organic synthesis, including air- and moisture-sensitive reactions using Schlenk techniques and inert-atmosphere conditions.
• Proficiency operating HPLC and LC-MS instrumentation and interpreting acquired data.
• Strong analytical chemistry, documentation, scientific communication, teamwork, and flexibility skills.

• Experience with chemoenzymatic reactions.
