Senior Research Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote - New York; salary range applies to candidates in the U.S.

Salary: $270,000–$310,000 per year

What you will do

• Increase experimental velocity by improving experiment execution, measurement, and debugging workflows.
• Maintain and evolve the JAX training framework for scalable distributed training on TPUs.
• Investigate training-data quality issues, build tooling to surface them, and convert findings into measurable accuracy improvements.
• Analyze production-model accuracy, develop evaluation harnesses, and identify improvements that matter to customers.
• Translate research prototypes into production systems while refactoring model architectures and infrastructure.
• Optimize production inference for speech language models and resolve performance bottlenecks across kernels, compilers, and system design.

Requirements

• Expert-level proficiency with JAX, TPUs, Flax, Optax, and the XLA compilation pipeline.
• Strong experience with production inference optimization, preferably for LLMs or speech models.
• Deep understanding of distributed training at scale, modern deep learning systems, and ML infrastructure.
• Familiarity with continuous batching, KV-cache management, sharding strategies, and quantization.
• Strong Python skills and the ability to communicate complex technical trade-offs across research, infrastructure, and production engineering.
• Experience with C++ or Rust for kernel-level work is a plus.

Nice to have

• Speech-to-Text domain knowledge, including ASR architectures, audio processing, and streaming inference.
