Senior AI Engineer (Speech)

Location: Remote work is available, or the role can be based in hirify.global hub locations in the United States or Canada.

Salary: $224,500–$256,000 USD base salary annually for exceptional talent based in California.

What you will do

• Set technical direction for speech models, decoders, and evaluation strategy.
• Research, adapt, and implement ASR/STT, speech-enhancement, and audio intelligence models.
• Improve decoding, endpointing, turn detection, streaming behavior, and ASR–LLM–TTS handoffs.
• Benchmark, prototype, fine-tune, distill, and adapt models to improve quality, latency, cost, and reliability.
• Build and operate production-grade, low-latency ML services and real-time inference components.
• Partner with speech, NLP, telephony, platform, product, and infrastructure engineers while mentoring teammates.

Requirements

• Strong Python programming skills and experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch.
• 5+ years of experience in speech ML, speech recognition, speech enhancement, audio AI, or a related field.
• Deep understanding of modern ASR/STT architectures and decoding techniques.
• Experience turning research, papers, experiments, or emerging models into measurable product improvements.
• Experience building, deploying, and operating low-latency production ML or backend services in a cloud environment.
• Ability to set technical direction, communicate across disciplines, mentor engineers, and balance quality, reliability, latency, and customer impact.

• Experience with streaming inference, observability, and GCP.
