Sr. Counsel, In-House Coverage Litigation (Insurance)

Location: New York City, United States; regular court appearances and transportation to hearings, trials, depositions, and other proceedings are required.

Annual base salary: $146,400–$241,600, plus eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards.

Established property and casualty insurance organization with an in-house law firm focused on insurance coverage litigation.

What you will do

• Represent the organization in state and federal court in commercial and personal lines insurance coverage disputes.
• Serve as lead counsel on moderately complex to complex matters from inception through all phases of litigation.
• Argue motions, handle trials and status conferences, and manage hearings, depositions, and other proceedings.
• Develop litigation strategies, advise on outcomes and settlements, and identify and mitigate legal and business risks.
• Draft and review motions, briefs, pleadings, discovery, correspondence, memoranda, and other legal documents.
• Advise business partners and senior clients, manage legal budgets and case administration, and mentor less senior attorneys and staff.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate or equivalent international legal degree from an accredited law school.
• At least six years of experience as a practicing attorney and in complex insurance coverage litigation.
• Active bar admission in good standing in NY, NJ, MA, and/or CT, as required for representation.
• Knowledge of auto, general liability, and/or property insurance coverage principles.
• Advanced oral and written advocacy skills, including demonstrated summary judgment and/or appellate success.
• Strong negotiation, decision-making, organization, responsiveness, collaboration, and mentoring skills; a valid driver's license may be required depending on location.
