Scientist/Sr. Scientist, Biochemistry (NGS Assay Development)

Salary: $110,000–$145,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications

What you will do

• Design, develop, and optimize NGS sequencing assays and biochemical workflows.
• Develop sequencing reagent formulations using enzymes, buffers, nucleotides, oligos, and fluorescent or luminescent reagents.
• Design flow cell experiments involving surface-attached oligonucleotides, surface chemistry, and solid-phase biochemical reactions.
• Characterize sequencing performance, including read quality, signal intensity, phasing, background, and error rates.
• Evaluate reagent stability and consumable performance while supporting integrated instrument testing.
• Collaborate with optics, software, microfluidics, hardware, manufacturing, engineering, and systems teams to develop commercial sequencing products.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline with 1–3 years of industry experience, or an M.S. with 3–5+ years of relevant industry experience.
• At least two years of hands-on experience with NGS assay development, sequencing chemistry, or similar surface-based sequencing technologies.
• Strong foundation in molecular biology, biochemistry, or nucleic acid chemistry, with experience developing biochemical or molecular assays.
• Experience with flow cells, surface-attached oligonucleotides, fluorescence or luminescence assays, optical detection, and sequencing reagents or consumables.
• Understanding of hybridization kinetics, enzymology, polymerase-based reactions, and nucleic acid surface chemistry.
• Strong experimental design, statistical analysis, troubleshooting, and technical communication skills.
