Senior Rail Engineer (Rail Design)

Location: Hybrid role in Irvine, California, United States

Salary: $135,000–$185,000 per year. California residents: $115,000–$149,000 depending on experience.

What you will do

• Design rail infrastructure and related components using CAD software.
• Develop construction cost estimates, project specifications, drawings, plans, and layouts.
• Provide technical support and collaborate with engineers, project managers, and national and regional teams.
• Collect and analyze project data and participate in quality assurance and quality control activities.
• Lead and mentor engineers and designers, supporting technical and leadership development.
• Oversee scopes, budgets, schedules, proposal development, and client communication for rail design projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET/EAC-accredited program.
• 10+ years of relevant experience and an EIT certification.
• Required proficiency with CAD software, including MicroStation and InRail/InRoads.
• Knowledge of rail industry regulations, codes, standards, and design principles.
• Ability to lead multiple rail design projects, manage schedules and budgets, and deliver PS&E from concept through final design.
• Strong communication, collaboration, problem-solving, attention to detail, and independent-work skills.

Nice to have

• MicroStation CONNECT and OpenRail experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in California or the ability to obtain one shortly after joining.
• Experience leading technical rail design teams.
• Membership or leadership in a professional practice organization, national board, or technical or policy committee.
