2027 Civil Engineering & Construction Materials Testing 6-month Co-op (Bloomington/White Bear Lake)

Location: Bloomington or White Bear Lake, Minnesota, United States; onsite work at construction projects

Compensation: $20–$24 per hour for the approximately six-month co-op; the posted annualized range is $37,000–$56,000.

What you will do

• Perform field and laboratory testing of soils, concrete, masonry, and asphalt.
• Conduct onsite materials testing at commercial and transportation construction projects.
• Work with project managers, professional engineers, technicians, and construction crews to verify that specifications are followed.
• Participate in training covering construction safety, soil compaction and classification, concrete certification, radiation safety, laboratory methods, and nuclear density gauge operation.
• Apply ASTM, AASHTO, ACI, ICC, and DOT standards.
• Complete technical examinations and demonstrate proficiency to obtain industry certifications.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• College enrollment toward an engineering degree, construction management degree, or a related field is ideal.
• Valid driver's license and a clean driving record for the last three years.
• Full-time availability for six months from mid-May through December.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, lift 75+ pounds, navigate uneven terrain and varying heights, and work in confined spaces or supported trenches.
• Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed, with a safety-focused mindset.

Nice to have

• Experience driving a pickup truck or other large vehicles.
• Work experience in landscaping, construction, farming, or a related field.
• Mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills.
