Spring 2027 AI Applied Research Internship (AI/ML)

Location: Washington, DC; on-site five days a week for six months. Full housing and relocation support are provided for co-ops outside the DC metro area. U.S. Person status is required, and visa sponsorship is not provided.

Salary: $25.00 per hour, plus a $2,000 monthly housing stipend, paid bi-weekly.

What you will do

• Source, clean, explore, evaluate, and deploy models using real construction and operational data.
• Build ML pipelines and manage experiments and models with MLflow, Kubeflow, or SageMaker.
• Develop forecasting and time-series models for megaproject cost, schedule, and risk.
• Own model lifecycles from raw data through production deployment and monitoring.
• Implement drift detection, retraining triggers, evaluation, and validation processes.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a BS or MS program in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Applied Math, or a related technical field.
• Available for the full six-month Spring 2027 term from January through June and returning to school afterward.
• Strong Python skills and experience with pandas, NumPy, and scikit-learn.
• Hands-on experience building ML pipelines and evaluating models through coursework, research, projects, or internships.
• Comfort approaching time-series or forecasting problems from scratch.
• U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident status is required, along with the ability to work on-site in Washington, DC five days a week.

Nice to have

• Experience with MLflow, Kubeflow, SageMaker, drift detection, or production monitoring.
• Knowledge of statistics, probability, experimental design, SQL, and relational data modeling.
• Experience with Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Palantir Foundry, or AWS.
• Interest in energy, national security, industrial software, or regulated industries.
• Familiarity with nuclear engineering concepts.
