Environmental Engineer (Manufacturing)

Location: Onsite at the pulp and paper mill in DeRidder, Louisiana, United States. Periodic travel is required. Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Salary: $90,000–$120,000 starting annual salary, dependent on qualifications.

What you will do

• Monitor and evaluate mill operations for compliance with environmental regulations and permit conditions.
• Interpret federal and state environmental regulations applicable to the mill site.
• Identify compliance issues, develop corrective actions and plans, and follow them through completion.
• Prepare semiannual, annual, performance test, and other compliance reports for regulatory agencies.
• Coordinate required compliance tasks, performance testing, field activities, audits, and inspections with operations and contractors.
• Create or revise compliance procedures and plans, maintain databases and spreadsheets, and complete assigned environmental tasks.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or Chemical Engineering.
• 5–10 years of experience in a manufacturing facility.
• Understanding of regulatory compliance, performance testing, biology, chemistry, and process operations.
• Knowledge of air pollution, water pollution, solid waste, hazardous waste, and federal and state agency reporting.
• Knowledge of Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems, Continuous Opacity Monitoring Systems, Continuous Monitoring Systems, and Relative Accuracy Test Audits.
• Familiarity with release and spill event reporting requirements of USEPA, LSP, and LDEQ.
• Fundamental understanding of the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Emergency Planning and Right-to-Know Act, New Source Performance Standards, Maximum Achievable Control Technology, Part 70 Title V Operating Permits, and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and similar tools.
• Strong writing, analytical, organizational, communication, listening, time-management, attention-to-detail, self-motivation, personal-responsibility, and procedure-following skills.
