Employee Benefits & Employment Law - Counsel (Employee Benefits)

Location: Hybrid role requiring 3 days onsite in Bethesda, MD

Annual salary: $151,700–$235,750

What you will do

• Provide legal support for the design, implementation, and administration of employee benefit plans.
• Advise on fiduciary duties, prohibited transactions, plan governance, and dispute resolution.
• Interpret legislative and regulatory developments and assess their impact on internal policies and benefit programs.
• Represent internal clients or the organization in regulatory inquiries, audits, and employee-benefits litigation.
• Collaborate with HR, finance, and other departments to align benefit plans with business goals and legal requirements.
• Train internal teams and support the Employment Law department on broader federal, state, and local employment law matters.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• 5+ years of employee benefits and employment law experience in a law firm, government agency, or in-house legal department.
• Deep knowledge of ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, the Affordable Care Act, and related employee-benefits legislation.
• Experience with retirement plan design, health and welfare benefits, executive compensation, and other employee benefit programs.
• Strong analytical, drafting, negotiation, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to manage complex legal matters independently.
