TL;DR
Unreal Technical Artist (Cinematic VFX): Building and optimizing Unreal Engine assets, environments, materials, shaders, and real-time compositing workflows for high-end cinematic production with an accent on photorealism, color-managed rendering, and production efficiency. Focus on developing artist-facing tools with Blueprints, profiling real-time performance, integrating DCC assets, and solving complex technical art challenges across VFX and virtual production.

Location: Onsite in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States

What you will do

  • Support asset and environment creation, integration, lighting, rendering, and optimization in Unreal Engine.
  • Develop and maintain artist-facing Unreal tools and workflows using Blueprints and other engine systems.
  • Create and optimize shaders, materials, assets, and scenes while profiling performance and resolving bottlenecks.
  • Support real-time compositing and cinematic rendering workflows, including Unreal Composure, ACES/OCIO, and HDR.
  • Integrate assets from Maya, Rhino 3D, Blender, Substance, Mari, and Photoshop into production workflows.
  • Collaborate with VFX supervisors, CG artists, TDs, and pipeline specialists to troubleshoot issues, improve tools, and document workflows.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as a Technical Artist or in a comparable role in high-end live-action VFX, animation, virtual production, or cinematic production.
  • Strong Unreal Engine proficiency, including Blueprints, lighting, rendering, materials, shaders, content integration, compositing, and profiling tools.
  • Experience with photorealistic Unreal Engine projects, real-time rendering constraints, shader optimization, and HLSL and/or GLSL.
  • Experience with color-managed pipelines, including ACES/OCIO and HDR rendering.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard DCC applications and 3D asset workflows, plus version control using Perforce, Git, or similar tools.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, documentation, collaboration, and independent implementation skills.

Nice to have

  • Virtual production and hybrid live-action, practical, CG, and real-time workflows.
  • Python or other scripting languages for DCC and Unreal workflows.
  • Pipeline tool development, offline VFX rendering and compositing, or Nuke experience.
  • ShotGrid familiarity and experience mentoring artists or establishing technical art best practices.
