Assistant Chief of Police

Location: Laredo, Texas, United States; on-campus, face-to-face work with a regular attendance schedule required

Salary: $80,000–$92,000 annually

Texas A&M International University’s University Police Department provides law enforcement and security services for the campus community.

What you will do

• Oversee administration and field operations for assigned university police functions.
• Coordinate personnel activities related to preserving order, protecting life and property, investigating crimes, and enforcing state laws.
• Monitor police service methods, procedures, staffing levels, and operational effectiveness.
• Supervise assigned employees and serve as backup to the Chief of Police, assuming overall departmental responsibility when required.
• Develop departmental goals, policies, procedures, rules, and standards for assigned divisions.
• Ensure compliance with reporting requirements and maintain departmental accreditation, including policy and standing-order updates.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least 10 years of experience as a Certified Peace Officer.
• Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Master Peace Officer Certification is required.
• Must hold a State of Texas Class C vehicle operator’s license or obtain one within 30 days of employment.
• Firearms proficiency and knowledge of the criminal justice system.
• Successful completion of psychological evaluation, physical examination, and a background investigation is required.

Nice to have

• 15 years as a Certified Peace Officer.
• Experience in higher-education campus law enforcement.
• Knowledge of internal affairs.
