Commercial Banking - Senior Group Portfolio Manager

Location: Chicago, IL; work arrangement details, including the proportion of on-site and remote work, will be discussed during the interview.

Salary: $175,000.00–$2,200,000.00 annually, based on experience, qualifications, and location. The role may also include incentive compensation and a discretionary bonus.

What you will do

• Lead portfolio management activities for a defined group of commercial or corporate banking clients, including reviews, renewals, reporting, risk ratings, pricing grid reviews, and remediation.
• Guide underwriting, deal structuring, credit decisions, and delegated credit and non-credit approvals within approved limits.
• Oversee workflow visibility, pipeline activity, client onboarding, closing processes, and escalations affecting timely delivery or client experience.
• Lead first-line risk management and control activities, oversee higher-risk transactions, and prepare for internal credit reviews and regulatory examinations.
• Represent the group in portfolio reviews and loan committee discussions while partnering with Relationship Managers, Market Leaders, Group Heads, Credit Risk, and Portfolio Administration.
• Coach Portfolio Managers, Associates, and Credit Analysts, set expectations, provide feedback, and build team capability.

Requirements

• Strong experience in commercial or corporate banking within a complex lending environment.
• Deep knowledge of underwriting, credit structuring, portfolio management, and risk oversight.
• Ability to set direction, prioritize competing demands, and manage high-volume workflows while maintaining quality and risk discipline.
• Sound judgment in assessing credit risk, identifying emerging issues, and balancing client needs with prudent risk management.
• Ability to collaborate with business and risk teams and engage with senior stakeholders, support partners, and clients.
• Legal eligibility to work at the specified U.S. location is required; a valid work or study permit may be required where applicable.
