Senior Software Engineer (Python/Flask)

Location: Hybrid in Richmond or Lynchburg, Virginia; available to Virginia residents only. In-office days are required Tuesday through Thursday, with core hours targeting 9am–5pm EST.

Salary: $96,700–$145,000 annually, plus eligibility for a performance-based bonus incentive.

What you will do

• Develop, enhance, and support a Flask-based web application that consolidates Python modules into a secure user experience.
• Build and maintain backend APIs, business workflows, and modular web UI integrations.
• Design secure database access patterns for Azure PostgreSQL using parameterized queries and safe SQL practices.
• Support containerized deployments, configuration management, environment promotions, and release readiness across Azure environments.
• Enhance GitLab CI/CD pipelines covering builds, testing, security scanning, deployments, and gated promotions.
• Resolve UI, backend, and cloud production issues while improving logging, monitoring, smoke testing, documentation, and operational readiness.

Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience delivering web-based applications and APIs with Python and Flask.
• Proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, with familiarity with React, Angular, or Vue.
• Experience with API design and integration, Azure App Service, cloud configuration, and environment separation.
• Hands-on experience with GitLab CI/CD and DevSecOps practices.
• Ability to work independently, mentor junior engineers, and influence technical decisions, with strong production troubleshooting skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or at least five years of professional experience.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Azure Synapse Pipelines and upstream data ingestion patterns.
• Experience with data-driven platforms supporting analytics or AI use cases.
• Experience in regulated industries such as insurance or financial services.
