Senior Software Development Engineer (AI)

Location: Must be based in New York City or Washington, D.C.

Annual compensation: $180,000–$230,000, depending on qualifications and operational considerations.

What you will do

• Design, architect, build, and lead delivery of enterprise applications, APIs, microservices, and shared platform capabilities.
• Develop user-facing software that integrates AI-generated insights, proprietary LLMs, retrieval services, and intelligent agents into legal and business workflows.
• Design agentic workflows with tool and Model Context Protocol interfaces, state management, retries, checkpointing, and safe recovery.
• Implement human-in-the-loop review, approval, and override controls for consequential agent actions.
• Establish architecture standards, reusable engineering frameworks, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, release management, and reliability practices.
• Lead security reviews, incident investigations, technical design discussions, and collaboration across engineering, security, infrastructure, product, and business teams.

Requirements

• 10+ years of progressive experience designing, developing, and leading delivery of enterprise software applications.
• Experience building web applications, APIs, microservices, distributed systems, and scalable high-volume software.
• Strong experience with software architecture, object-oriented design, technical strategy, and cross-functional technical delivery.
• Experience with Git workflows, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, security, observability, and performance optimization.
• Production experience with large language model applications, including tool or function calling, retrieval, and multi-step workflow orchestration.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with LangGraph, Semantic Kernel, Model Context Protocol, and evaluation harnesses for non-deterministic systems.
• Experience developing applications in Microsoft Azure.
• Relevant Azure, software development, or cloud technology certifications.
