Senior Security Engineer, Data (Cybersecurity)

Location: Richmond, Virginia; available to Virginia residents who can work in-office in Richmond. A hybrid schedule is required, with in-office days on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and core business hours targeting 9am–5pm EST.

Salary: $96,700–$145,000 national annual range, plus eligibility for a performance-based bonus incentive.

What you will do

• Operate and improve data security platforms, including onboarding data sources and maintaining scanning coverage.
• Tune data classification rules, validation processes, DLP policies, and enforcement mechanisms.
• Identify overexposed, misclassified, or unprotected sensitive data and drive remediation.
• Analyze data exposure risks, validate DLP, encryption, and labeling controls, and recommend mitigation strategies.
• Support data-related incident investigations, root cause analysis, and automation of discovery, classification, and response workflows.
• Partner with application, data, cloud, business, SOC, Identity, and Privacy teams on governance and data security strategy.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of experience in data security, cybersecurity, or a related domain.
• Hands-on experience with a data security platform such as BigID, Varonis, or Spirion, or a DLP solution such as Microsoft Purview, Forcepoint, or Symantec.
• Strong knowledge of data classification, governance, DLP, encryption, tokenization, and security frameworks including NIST, ISO 27001, or CIS.
• Experience in enterprise IT environments spanning cloud, endpoint, and SaaS, plus familiarity with Linux and Kubernetes.
• Visa sponsorship is not available; applicants must be Virginia residents able to work in the Richmond office on the required hybrid schedule.
