Principal Cybersecurity Engineer (AI)

Location: Reston, Virginia, USA; hybrid/flexible schedule with at least 50% of each quarter spent in the office or in the field

Salary: $184,800–$277,200 annual base salary for Reston; additional US locations offer $167,200–$300,000, and Colorado offers $176,000–$264,000.

What you will do

• Architect, operate, and continuously develop security response tooling and environments, including SOAR, SIEM, incident response, forensics, and agentic AI.
• Lead and support cybersecurity incident response across the organization, including high-severity events.
• Develop the vision and implementation of a world-class cybersecurity response program.
• Evolve response platforms to improve precision, automation, and innovation across Cyber Defense.
• Apply AI to security response processes and strengthen protection for cloud-native and on-premise environments.
• Mentor new and existing security staff and help drive team development.

Requirements

• Minimum 10 years of cybersecurity or information security experience, including at least 2 years of hands-on technical leadership.
• Experience with at least one scripting language and with conversational AI, generative AI, and AI agents.
• Experience with security monitoring and incident response.
• Expertise in incident investigation, threat hunting, digital forensics, SIEM, SOAR, and incident management.
• Experience architecting scalable cloud-native security solutions and using software development practices, including SSDLC.
• Bachelor’s degree required; cybersecurity certifications and training such as CISSP, SANS, or Offensive Security are beneficial.
