TL;DR
Disability Community Coordinator (Community Development and Disability Advocacy): Building regional community capacity and partnerships to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families with an accent on stakeholder engagement, advocacy, data collection, and best-practice models. Focus on identifying service barriers, coordinating community initiatives, informing state-plan objectives, and supporting self-advocates and systems-change efforts.

Location: Weslaco, Texas, United States; travel up to 40% monthly within the region.

What you will do

  • Build community capacity and serve as a liaison for regional stakeholders supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.
  • Identify barriers to services, review community needs, and develop plans to improve disability-related programs.
  • Build cross-disability partnerships and collaborate with community partners and grant recipients.
  • Collect qualitative and quantitative input through surveys, focus groups, and in-person interviews.
  • Present program information, prepare requested documents and reports, and maintain regional activity and resource databases.
  • Support self-advocates, families, and other leaders in advocacy and systems-change initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Four years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal resources relevant to the program area.
  • Strong oral and written communication, public speaking, research, reporting, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience or ability in project management, strategic planning, spreadsheets, databases, and community event planning.
  • Ability to travel up to 40% monthly within the region.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree.
  • Fluency in Spanish or another language.
