Planning Engineer Sr

Location: Taylor, Texas; hybrid schedule with on-site work required at least two days per week. Remote work must be performed within Texas.

Salary: $109,000–$150,000 per year

What you will do

• Perform steady-state and dynamic contingency analyses using power system simulation models such as PSSE, VSAT, and TSAT.
• Run scenarios, assess study accuracy, assign confidence metrics, and prepare conclusions, recommendations, reports, and presentations.
• Conduct stability studies to determine system operating limits and develop solutions to current and future stability issues.
• Evaluate and update power system dynamic models, including inverter-based resource models.
• Serve as a technical subject matter expert, make independent engineering decisions, and resolve complex system issues.
• Coordinate multifunctional teams, participate in stakeholder and regulatory meetings, and mentor less experienced engineers and analysts.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
• At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience as a power system engineer or similar role within the electric utility industry for the senior level.
• Expertise with power system software applications, spreadsheet programs, and database programs.
• Ability to analyze complex engineering situations, prepare technical recommendations, and collaborate with internal teams, market participants, and regulatory agencies.
• Must be able to work on-site in Taylor, Texas at least two days per week; remote work is limited to Texas.

Nice to have

• Experience with large-scale dynamic stability analyses using PSSE and TSAT.
• Experience programming simulation automation tools with Python.
• Familiarity with NERC reliability standards, transmission planning processes, and Energy Management Systems.
