Principal Engineer, Transmission System Planning (Hybrid Schedule)

Location: Hybrid role based in Westwood, Massachusetts, Berlin, Connecticut, or Hartford, Connecticut. Employees must work at least three days per week in the office and may be required to work up to five days onsite.

Salary: $150,890–$167,660 annually, plus potential incentive.

What you will do

• Provide technical leadership for complex transmission system planning studies and major engineering recommendations.
• Lead reliability and strategic scenario-based studies covering voltage, thermal, photovoltaic, transfer-limit, short-circuit, electromagnetic transient, and stability assessments.
• Model and plan bulk electric power systems, including AC transmission lines, battery storage, FACTS devices, HVDC, and inverter-based resources.
• Collaborate with ISO-New England, transmission owners, and internal engineering, operations, substation, and distributed energy resource groups.
• Develop planning criteria for integrating photovoltaic solar, electric vehicles, battery storage, and other technologies.
• Prepare reports, presentations, regulatory filings, written responses, and testimony, and represent Eversource in industry committees and working groups.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in engineering or a science field; a Ph.D. is preferred.
• At least 10 years of specialized experience in transmission planning, software simulations, and inverter-based resource modeling.
• Advanced knowledge of electrical theory and bulk electric power system planning.
• Extensive experience with power system modeling and simulation for power flow, voltage, short circuit, stability, and electromagnetic transient analysis.
• Experience with PSSE, PSCAD, and Microsoft Office 365; knowledge of NERC TPL, NPCC, and ISO-New England planning procedures.

• Professional Engineer license.
• Ph.D. in engineering.
• Programming experience with Python or VBA.
• Experience with ASPEN OneLiner, EMTP, TARA, or PI ProcessBook.
