Senior Engineer, Transmission System Planning (Hybrid)

Location: Hybrid role based in Westwood, MA, Berlin, CT, or Hartford, CT. Employees must work at least three days in the office, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and must be able to work up to five days in the office when required.

Annual salary: $129,450–$143,830, plus potential incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Develop and maintain transmission system models, including equipment ratings, impedances, contingency sets, protection and control parameters, and system topology.
• Conduct adequacy assessments and reliability studies covering power flow, transient stability, short circuit, and electromagnetic transients.
• Identify technical issues and develop solutions and options for transmission delivery objectives.
• Participate in regional transmission expansion studies with utilities and ISO-NE planning staff.
• Plan and help manage the life cycle of transmission assets and contribute to Electric Operations budgets.
• Represent the company on transmission planning committees and train junior staff in technical analysis and procedures.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering; an advanced degree is preferred.
• Five or more years of directly related experience in transmission system modeling, analysis, and planning-level design.
• Experience with transmission analysis tools such as PSSE, TARA, ASPEN, PSCAD, or similar software.
• Knowledge of electrical theory, transmission planning standards, reliability criteria, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
• Knowledge of Python and emerging technologies such as photovoltaic solar, electric vehicles, and batteries.
