TL;DR
Transportation Engineer (Roadway Design) (Civil Engineering): Designing local and UDOT roadway improvements and complete PS&E packages with an accent on roadway geometry, traffic control, drainage, and compliance with AASHTO/UDOT standards. Focus on leading design scopes, performing QA/QC reviews, managing schedules and budgets, and mentoring junior engineers.

Location: Draper, Utah, United States; hybrid work between an office and field environment

Salary: $100,000–$140,000 per year, depending on experience; higher compensation may be considered for candidates with significant additional experience.

What you will do

  • Lead and perform roadway design for safety upgrades, urban corridors, interchanges, and widening projects.
  • Prepare complete PS&E packages, including plans, specifications, and engineer’s estimates for bid.
  • Develop typical sections, horizontal and vertical alignments, profiles, cross-sections, and traffic-control phasing details.
  • Apply AASHTO and UDOT standards and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Coordinate drainage and stormwater design, manage scope, schedule, and budget, and perform QA/QC reviews.
  • Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with structures, traffic, and environmental disciplines.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of roadway or transportation design experience, including construction plan set preparation.
  • Proficiency with Bentley MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer and/or Autodesk Civil 3D.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer license in Utah or ability to obtain it within 6–12 months.
  • Clear communication skills and willingness to mentor junior staff and collaborate across disciplines.
  • Ability to work in the Draper office and field environment, including occasional exposure to inclement weather and other site conditions.

Nice to have

  • UDOT project experience and knowledge of UDOT CADD standards.
  • Municipal coordination experience.
  • Experience with InRoads or GEOPAK.
  • Experience preparing PSEs and estimates and performing quality-control reviews.
