Materials Analyst (TEM)

Location: Milpitas, California, USA; onsite, full-time. Work schedule: 5:00 p.m.–2:00 a.m., Tuesday–Saturday or Sunday–Thursday. Shift differential applies. Due to ITAR compliance, applicants must be U.S. Persons: U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents.

Salary: USD 85,000–100,000 per year.

What you will do

• Obtain TEM and STEM images from prepared samples.
• Acquire STEM/EDX and STEM/EELS spectra, line scans, and maps.
• Organize analytical data and prepare summary reports for customers.
• Partner with customers and colleagues to optimize experiments and explain results.
• Develop TEM analysis protocols for new sample types.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
• Strong operational and theoretical understanding of transmission electron microscopy.
• Experience with TEM sample preparation and hard-materials characterization.
• Understanding of electron microscopy, semiconductor device physics, and failure analysis.
• U.S. Person status is required for ITAR-regulated work.
• Ability to work the assigned evening and overnight schedule and meet the physical requirements of the laboratory role.

Nice to have

• Experience with aberration-correction TEM.
• Familiarity with FEI TEM tools, Oxford or Bruker EDS, Gatan EELS, and Digital Micrograph.
