What you will do
- Lead agricultural operations at the Corpus Christi Research Center, including crop planning, planting, crop management, irrigation coordination, harvesting, and soil health management.
- Provide full-service field operations and support for principal investigator research trials while following research protocols.
- Maintain, repair, schedule, and operate farm equipment; manage inventory and preventive maintenance plans.
- Optimize non-research acreage through rotational crop selection and land-use planning.
- Coordinate external field testing, demonstration plots, and collaborative agronomic evaluations, including logistics, compliance, and reporting.
- Document field activities, crop performance, input usage, and operational metrics; train seasonal staff on safe equipment and field procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Soil Science, Agricultural Engineering, or a related field plus five years of relevant experience; alternatively, a master’s degree plus three years or a PhD plus one year.
- Experience with strategic land-use planning, precision agriculture, data-driven decision-making, crop production, soil fertility, pest and disease management, and field operations.
- Experience operating and maintaining farm equipment, with strong mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to coordinate researchers, external partners, multiple stakeholders, and complex field schedules.
- Ability to secure a Pesticide Applicators license and drone pilot applicator license.
- Strong organizational, leadership, communication, recordkeeping, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
