TL;DR
Faculty Position-Department of Information Services, Clinical Informatics Researcher (AI): Designing and leading clinical informatics research projects to improve healthcare delivery, patient outcomes, and health IT systems with an accent on clinical data analysis, usability, interoperability, and patient safety. Focus on evaluating predictive analytics and AI/ML solutions, optimizing clinical decision support systems, and integrating research findings into clinical workflows.

Location: Memphis, TN, United States; primarily office-based with remote or hybrid work opportunities and in-person attendance required for quarterly all-hands meetings

Full-time faculty position with rank at the Instructor, Assistant, or Associate level based on experience and accomplishments.

What you will do

  • Develop, lead, and execute clinical informatics research projects focused on healthcare delivery, patient outcomes, health IT systems, and data management.
  • Design quantitative and qualitative studies and analyze their effectiveness, usability, and impact on clinical workflows.
  • Extract and integrate data from electronic health records, health information exchanges, and clinical databases.
  • Design and implement applied clinical informatics projects and optimize clinical decision support systems.
  • Evaluate predictive analytics, AI/ML algorithms, telemedicine, mobile health technologies, and population health platforms.
  • Prepare reports, manuscripts, presentations, grant materials, and conference contributions while mentoring researchers, students, and fellows.

Requirements

  • MD, PhD, and/or an equivalent doctoral-level degree.
  • At least 2–3 years of experience in clinical informatics research, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience designing and managing research projects, including data collection, analysis, and publication.
  • Experience with clinical data management tools, EHRs, health information exchanges, and data analysis software.
  • Proficiency in R, Python, SAS, SPSS, or SQL and healthcare data standards such as HL7 and FHIR.
  • Knowledge of clinical informatics methodologies, healthcare regulations including HIPAA and HITECH, and health data privacy.

Nice to have

  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited Clinical Informatics Fellowship or equivalent advanced training with Clinical Informatics Board Certification or Eligibility.
  • Experience with AI/ML, telemedicine, or mobile health technologies.
  • Grant writing and research funding experience.
  • Membership in AMIA, ANIA, AMDIS, HIMSS, or similar organizations.
  • Clinical qualifications for optional participation in pediatric clinical care.
