Senior Scientist I, Translational Research

Location: Chicago, United States. The role requires approximately 25% domestic and international travel.

Salary: $100,000–$160,000 annually in Chicago. Salary ranges of $115,000–$175,000 apply to New York City and San Francisco; compensation may vary for Colorado, Illinois, and New York based on qualifications and experience.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and execute computational research projects with pharmaceutical clients using the Tempus platform.
• Analyze and integrate large clinical, molecular, genomic, and multimodal datasets to identify insights and new research opportunities.
• Co-architect client solutions that support oncology drug discovery, development, clinical trials, and real-world evidence programs.
• Develop account strategies and advise biopharma partners on how the platform can support their pipelines and portfolios.
• Document technical methods and results, author whitepapers, and communicate the value of multimodal analysis and AI to diverse audiences.
• Collaborate with Research, Engineering, Data Science, and Product teams to improve computational workflows and inform portfolio development.

Requirements

• PhD in a quantitative discipline such as biostatistics, statistical genetics, cancer genetics, bioinformatics, computational biology, or computational immunology; alternatively, a PhD in molecular biology or immunology with a strong computational biology record.
• At least 4 years of experience in drug development using genomic and multimodal data for drug discovery and development.
• Strong understanding of molecular data, AI in drug discovery, cancer, immunology, clinical trials, and real-world evidence platforms.
• Experience integrating and modeling multimodal clinical and omics data, including large transcriptome datasets.
• Proficiency in R, Python, and SQL.
• Ability to communicate insights to diverse audiences and collaborate across interdisciplinary teams.

Nice to have

• Prior consulting or client-facing experience.
• Strong peer-reviewed publication record.
• Experience with Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, Scikit-learn, Jupyter Notebooks, RStudio, tidyverse, ggplot, Git, Docker, AWS, Flask, Dask, and data visualization tools.
• Experience with HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, D3, Plotly, matplotlib, or seaborn.
