Location: Portsmouth, Virginia; onsite with no telecommuting

Annual salary: $44,000–$47,000, commensurate with experience

What you will do

• Produce accurate and engaging digital news copy.
• Monitor and publish relevant content across social media networks and tools.
• React quickly to breaking news using strong news judgment.
• Edit and publish video in a deadline-driven newsroom environment.
• Apply proofreading, copy editing, SEO, usability, and accessibility practices.

Requirements

• Degree in journalism.
• Daily newspaper or news site experience.
• Exceptional writing, proofreading, copy editing, and communication skills.
• Proficiency in Associated Press style, SEO, and social media strategies.
• Understanding of content management system design, usability, accessibility, and customer focus.
• Ability to work all shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Nice to have

• Live, working web samples and/or print pages.
