Content Writer/Copywriter

Location: Houston, TX, or College Station, TX

Salary: $60,000–$65,000 annually; proposed minimum salary of $5,000 monthly.

What you will do

• Write, edit, and proofread news releases, feature stories, web copy, email campaigns, social media content, brochures, annual reports, talking points, and executive communications.
• Translate technical and programmatic information into clear, accessible language for agencies, partners, communities, clients, funders, and internal audiences.
• Maintain a consistent organizational narrative, tone, brand, and style across written materials and communication channels.
• Research topics, develop editorial calendars, publish and update website content, and support communications plans.
• Review content from other communications team members and provide constructive editorial feedback.
• Manage multiple projects and competing priorities while meeting deadlines and maintaining accuracy.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least two years of related experience.
• Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, storytelling, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to adapt communication style for varied audiences and platforms, work independently, and manage competing priorities.
• Ability to travel independently to other or remote locations by car or commercial airline.
• The position is grant- and contract-funded and depends on continued funding and satisfactory performance.

Nice to have

• Experience writing about complex or technical subjects for general audiences.
• Experience producing both long-form content and short-form copy.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, WordPress or other CMS platforms, Mailchimp or other email marketing tools, and social media platforms.
• Working knowledge of AP Style.
• A portfolio demonstrating previous writing experience.
