What you will do

• Conduct AI, machine learning, and data science research supporting biology-related projects.
• Translate scientific questions into computational workflows with AI researchers, computational scientists, and biology experts.
• Analyze complex biological datasets and develop, adapt, and evaluate computational models.
• Build reproducible analysis pipelines and contribute to research software.
• Interpret results, document methods, and contribute to publications, reports, presentations, and other deliverables.
• Participate in interdisciplinary team science.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, biology, or a closely related field, received by the start of employment.
• Demonstrated expertise in AI/ML, statistical learning, or advanced data analytics.
• Experience applying or evaluating novel machine learning or data-driven methods on complex real-world datasets.
• Strong research productivity demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications or equivalent outputs.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in an interdisciplinary research environment.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Uncleared Personal Identity Verification credential and meet Brookhaven site-access requirements.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of computational biology, bioinformatics, biological software tools, workflows, and databases.
• Programming and scripting experience for large-scale data analysis and reproducible research.
• Experience with deep learning, large language models, protein language models, or generative AI for scientific or biological applications.
• Experience with model development, fine-tuning, evaluation, benchmarking, deployment, or heterogeneous and multimodal scientific datasets.
• Experience contributing to reusable workflows, scientific software, open-source projects, or collaborative codebases.
