Combat-Fire Control, Weapons, Platform Systems Engineer (Submarine Combat Systems): Supporting the Naval Undersea Warfare Center by troubleshooting, modernizing, testing, and documenting submarine combat, weapons, and platform systems with an accent on torpedoes, missiles, launchers, sensors, and electronic warfare interfaces. Focus on systems integration, operational verification, technical trade studies, and assessing reliability, interoperability, and cyber invulnerability.

Location: On-site at NUWCDIVNPT in Newport, Rhode Island; occasional telework is flexible, but candidates must be local to the work location.

Salary: $66,585.91–$121,873.66 annually.

What you will do

  • Troubleshoot and recommend maintenance and enhancement solutions for submarine and ship combat, weapons, launcher, sonar, radar, periscope, electronic warfare, navigation, and other platform systems.
  • Design and assess system modernization initiatives and capability expansions for emerging Navy needs.
  • Conduct functional, integration, system, factory acceptance, environmental, and operational verification testing.
  • Evaluate requirements compliance, interoperability, reliability, and cyber invulnerability.
  • Prepare technical reports, recommendation papers, trade studies, operational documentation, performance specifications, and interface documents.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams on weapon-system upgrades, technical data packages, modernization activities, and installation verification.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 2–4 years of experience, master’s degree with 0–2 years of experience, or high school diploma with 8–10 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of AN/BYG-1 and SWFTS architectures, combat control systems, launcher equipment, torpedoes, missiles, payload control, and submarine platform electronics.
  • Experience with design, troubleshooting, analysis, reporting, or testing of complex combat and platform systems.
  • Knowledge of U.S. Navy submarine laboratory testing and evaluation environments and associated interface networks.
  • Ability to write, edit, and maintain submarine operational documentation, including submarine firing craft procedures.
  • Active U.S. Department of Defense Secret security clearance required.

Nice to have

  • Demonstrated experience operating U.S. Navy, Department of Defense, or AUKUS non-propulsion electronic-mechanical systems.
  • Experience with submarine combat control, weapons, launchers, undersea warfare sensors, electronic warfare, imaging, or radar systems.
