Principal Software Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Folsom, California, United States; hybrid environment with occasional travel

Estimated starting salary: $165,010.21–$226,889.04 per year, plus performance-based annual incentive pay.

What you will do

• Provide technical leadership and strategic direction for major software projects.
• Lead project-level software engineering execution and staff software engineers.
• Design and develop software architecture for advanced aerospace systems.
• Estimate software tasks and support project planning.
• Optimize software performance and drive engineering innovation.
• Interface with customers and mentor engineering teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline, with typically 14 or more years of relevant experience.
• Knowledge of software engineering principles and practices, with experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
• Professional experience with C/C++, Linux, and embedded systems.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance; U.S. citizenship is required for employment.
• Ability to work at a computer for extended periods and perform coding and testing activities.

Nice to have

• Project-level leadership of software engineering teams and familiarity with Agile software development.
• Bare-metal programming with microcontrollers and embedded buses such as I2C and SPI.
• Experience with Xilinx/AMD SoCs, Yocto, containerization, virtual machines, and DevSecOps.
• Networking, socket-based communications, BASH, Python scripting, MongoDB, encryption, and information assurance.
• Experience developing mobile and Windows desktop applications or using AI tools in software development.
