TL;DR
Flight Software Engineer III (Aerospace): Developing, integrating, and maintaining reliable flight and ground software for spacecraft payloads and sensor systems with an accent on embedded processing architectures, RTOS, and high-reliability aerospace applications. Focus on designing efficient algorithms for microcontrollers, processors, GPUs, and SoCs, building CI/CD pipelines, and qualifying software through integration, certification, and audit activities.

Location: Louisville, Colorado; must be local to the work location. Flexible for occasional telework.

Projected annual compensation: $92,978.75–$161,672.00.

What you will do

  • Lead the development, integration, and maintenance of flight and ground software for spacecraft payloads, sensors, and tooling.
  • Develop embedded applications and algorithms for microcontrollers, processors, GPUs, and SoC devices.
  • Maintain source control, configuration management, and CI/CD practices for software build, testing, and deployment.
  • Participate in technical design reviews, code inspections, hardware-software integration tests, and performance analysis.
  • Support flight software qualification and certification by preparing documentation and audit evidence.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers, scientists, program leads, and multidisciplinary development teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, computing, or a related field, with 5–7 years of relevant experience; equivalent requirements apply for MS and PhD candidates.
  • Experience with space processing architectures using microcontrollers, processors, SoCs, and GPUs.
  • Strong knowledge of embedded systems, operating systems, RTOS, and C, C++, Python, and Bash.
  • Experience supporting software through requirements derivation, development, integration, and sustainment.
  • Experience with Git-based source control and continuous integration and delivery systems.
  • Familiarity with Podman, Docker, Docker Compose, TCP/IP, UDP, serial communication, routing, and message queues.

Nice to have

  • Experience supporting defense, NASA, and commercial aerospace customers.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity concepts and their implementation in flight software and supporting systems.
  • Knowledge of orbital mechanics, perturbations, and payload interactions with spacecraft attitude and environment.
