Instrument Mechanic (Refinery)

Location: Detroit, Michigan, United States; onsite refinery work required

Salary: $50.97 per hour, with scheduled annual increases under the Collective Bargaining Agreement; annual bonus target of 6% of eligible wages.

What you will do

• Install, test, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair refinery field instrumentation, including meters, transmitters, switches, solenoids, relays, control valves, regulators, actuators, and positioners.
• Maintain electronic and pneumatic instruments and related equipment across process units and maintenance areas.
• Troubleshoot control and monitoring systems, including Distributed Control Systems, PLCs, vibration monitoring systems, and specialty instrumentation.
• Use P&IDs, loop drawings, logic diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, manuals, and procedures to diagnose faults and complete corrective work.
• Upload and download configuration and diagnostic data, maintain calibration records, and document work orders, service history, and equipment conditions.
• Participate in safety meetings and support refinery operations through callouts, overtime, and off-shift work.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver's license.
• At least one of the following: an associate degree or equivalent in science with an Electronics or Instrumentation specialization, a recognized technical certificate, a related higher engineering degree, or at least two years of equivalent work experience.
• Three to five years of relevant experience is preferred, along with strong computer skills.
• Ability to wear required PPE, climb vertical ladders, lift 50 pounds, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to pass a written test and hands-on skills demonstration.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with handheld communicators and laptops used to communicate with smart instruments.
