Tech Lead Manager SRE (USDS)

Location: San Jose, United States. The role is shifting to a fully in-person schedule of up to five days per week.

Salary: $208,800–$438,000 annually, plus potential discretionary bonuses, incentives, and restricted stock units.

What you will do

• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to Site Reliability Engineers building observable, fault-tolerant systems.
• Drive architectural decisions for large-scale, globally distributed service mesh architectures.
• Establish production ownership models, incident response protocols, and SLA/SLO frameworks.
• Develop roadmaps for observability and automation initiatives, reliability platforms, and developer-facing tools.
• Lead hiring, career development, performance evaluation, retention, and team growth while maintaining hands-on technical contributions.
• Lead incident response improvements, system reliability audits, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems in data center or cloud environments.
• Experience leading a small to mid-size team while making significant hands-on technical contributions.
• Strong professional experience with Docker containers and Kubernetes systems.
• Proven experience establishing and implementing SRE best practices across engineering organizations.
• Strong knowledge of algorithms, data structures, systems design, Linux internals, and networking fundamentals.
• Experience mentoring engineers, guiding projects, and developing automation tools, APIs, observability solutions, SLOs, and error budgets.
