Underwriting Officer - SME

Location: LON - London; hybrid work with three days per week in the office and two days at home

What you will do

• Assess, recommend, and implement national underwriting strategies that support profit and growth objectives.
• Support individual risk and portfolio underwriting reviews, including evaluation of underwriter proficiency and underwriting quality.
• Partner with actuarial teams to report key performance metrics and support strategy development.
• Develop underwriting capabilities and best practices through coaching, training, and education on strategy and guidelines.
• Monitor market trends, emerging issues, and underwriting results across the countrywide SME book, taking action with underwriting leadership when needed.
• Contribute to SME initiatives such as the Retail & Wholesale project.

Requirements

• Advanced experience in underwriting, product knowledge, financial analysis, or risk assessment.
• Commercial underwriting experience in property and casualty insurance.
• Expert knowledge of insurance products, regulatory requirements, risk appetite, and risk selection.
• Strong critical-thinking, analytical, interpersonal, communication, leadership, and influencing skills.
• CII qualification.
