Tech Lead Manager Data Platform (USDS)

Location: San Jose, United States; fully in-person schedule up to 5 days a week

Salary: $208,800–$438,000 annually, plus potential discretionary bonuses, incentives, and restricted stock units.

What you will do

• Lead and manage a team of data engineers, promoting technical excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement.
• Design, build, maintain, and scale big data platforms, pipelines, and services for batch and real-time processing across TikTok, TikTok Shop, and TikTok LIVE.
• Define architecture standards for data modeling, pipeline design, data quality, governance, privacy, and security.
• Own end-to-end delivery of data solutions from design and development through testing, deployment, and optimization.
• Partner with Product, Analytics, Data Science, and Engineering teams to translate business requirements into scalable solutions.
• Establish planning, prioritization, delivery governance, performance measurement, and executive-level technical communication across multiple initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of experience building and scaling enterprise-grade data platforms in large-scale distributed systems.
• 3+ years of experience in engineering leadership or engineering management overseeing technical teams in cross-functional environments.
• Hands-on experience with big data processing and distributed storage engines such as Hadoop, Spark, Flink, Druid, or ClickHouse.
• Strong understanding of data lakes, data warehouses, and lakehouse architectures, with strong SQL and Python or equivalent-language skills.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

• Ability to influence data strategy and drive alignment across cross-functional teams.
