TL;DR
Image Scientist / Physicist (Remote Sensing and Image Processing): Analyzing and improving remote sensing system data through calibration studies, sensor characterization, signal processing, modeling, and simulation with an accent on radiometric analysis, image chain assessment, and engineering code development. Focus on coordinating calibration planning, validating data quality, investigating anomalous product performance, and communicating technical findings to technical and non-technical audiences.

Location: Chesterbrook, Pennsylvania, United States; onsite with no remote or telework allowed

Salary: $5,000 per month

What you will do

  • Perform studies and analysis to characterize and improve remote sensing data quality across PAN, IR, MSI, HSI, LIDAR, and RADAR systems.
  • Coordinate payload calibration planning, including meetings, handbooks, schedules, data dissemination concepts of operations, readiness plans, and review execution plans.
  • Manage collaborative sites and data repositories used by distributed calibration teams.
  • Deliver radiometric data, sensor characterization reports, calibration briefings, and analyses of calibration truth data and accuracy.
  • Maintain scripts, processes, and data used for calibration assessment and monitoring, and validate testing and capability transitions.
  • Investigate anomalous product-quality performance, monitor enterprise data integrity, and coordinate future capability and requirements planning with external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.
  • Bachelor’s degree with 5–7 years of relevant experience, master’s degree with 3–5 years, or PhD with 0–2 years in Image Science, Optics, Applied Physics, Mathematics, or Engineering.
  • Technical analysis experience with EO remote sensing data, image processing, digital signal processing, and image chain analysis.
  • Experience developing or modifying engineering code in Python, MATLAB, ENVI/IDL, or a similar tool.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and in team environments, represent customer needs, and participate in outreach and community forums.

Nice to have

  • Seven or more years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree, or comparable experience with a master’s degree.
  • Project management or leadership experience.
  • Experience with atmospheric radiative transfer models such as MODTRAN, XML data handling, NITF or JPEG image formats, AI/ML tools, or big data analysis.
  • Experience with multiple engineering programming and image-processing tools.
