Research Scientist – Physics Modeling and Simulation (Python)

What you will do

• Enhance and optimize R&D algorithms for extracting insights from raw and processed sensor data.
• Apply physics and aerodynamics expertise to modeling and simulation problems.
• Develop Python software using modern libraries and software engineering methodologies.
• Develop and apply algorithms for supersonic and hypersonic vehicle aerodynamics.
• Collaborate with a team of 6–8 people and communicate with peers and decision makers.
• Support existing customers at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

Requirements

• Active Top Secret security clearance required.
• Bachelor of Science degree in computer engineering, physics, mathematics, or another engineering discipline.
• At least three years of experience in modeling and simulation-focused engineering.
• At least three years of experience with vehicle aerodynamics in supersonic and hypersonic regimes.
• At least one year of Python experience.
• Strong Git-based software configuration management skills and the ability to work with ambiguous requirements.

Nice to have

• Master of Science degree in computer science, software engineering, or an engineering discipline.
• Experience developing modular, reusable software with object-oriented development practices.
• Experience with container technologies such as Docker or Podman.
• Experience with GitFlow and GitOps workflows using GitHub, GitLab, or similar repositories.
