Staff Engineer, IT Infrastructure

Location: Menlo Park, California, United States; onsite Monday–Thursday and work from home on Friday. Current authorization to work in the United States without present or future sponsorship is required.

Salary: $148,200–$222,200 per year

What you will do

• Design, administer, secure, and automate Enterprise Linux environments across physical, virtual, cloud, and HPC infrastructure.
• Administer HPC and scientific-computing environments, including workload scheduling, CPU/GPU compute, high-performance networking, and large-scale storage integration.
• Operate and improve on-premises and public-cloud infrastructure, networking, identity and access management, monitoring, and security services.
• Troubleshoot routing, switching, DNS, firewalls, VPNs, segmentation, load balancing, hybrid connectivity, storage, and data-access issues.
• Build automation, Infrastructure as Code, observability, CI/CD, and remediation workflows while reducing technical debt and single-person dependencies.
• Lead complex infrastructure initiatives, establish engineering standards, influence architecture, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• Significant experience designing, administering, and supporting production infrastructure at enterprise scale.
• Deep hands-on Enterprise Linux administration and troubleshooting experience.
• Experience with HPC, scientific computing, large-scale compute, or similarly complex distributed-compute environments.
• Strong networking, public-cloud, automation, scripting, configuration-management, API, and Infrastructure-as-Code skills.
• Experience with monitoring, observability, incident response, root-cause analysis, infrastructure security, identity and access management, system hardening, and vulnerability management.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without present or future visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Experience with HPC workload scheduling, GPU infrastructure, high-performance networking, containers, hybrid cloud, and declarative infrastructure practices.
• Experience with enterprise NFS, large-scale storage, Zero Trust, ZTNA, SIEM, EDR/XDR, SSO, MFA, and security telemetry.
• Background in scientific computing, bioinformatics, genomics, research infrastructure, or AI-assisted infrastructure operations.
