Staff Network Engineer

Location: Palo Alto, California, United States. hirify.global Flex allows working from anywhere in the US for up to four weeks per year.

Annual salary: $100,000–$230,000.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and maintain large-scale network infrastructure, including five-stage Clos data center fabrics, routers, switches, VPNs, Palo Alto firewalls, and enterprise DNS.
• Build and support Azure networking, hybrid connectivity with Azure and AWS, routing, private access patterns, security controls, and network services.
• Configure and optimize WAN and data center routing and switching, including traffic engineering, resiliency, segmentation, and high-availability patterns.
• Develop network observability with metrics, alerts, and dashboards to improve proactive detection and incident response.
• Automate network changes and operational workflows with Python, Ansible, and related tooling across routers, switches, firewalls, and cloud infrastructure.
• Lead technical roadmaps, collaborate with security and platform teams, mentor engineers, influence executives, and participate in on-call support.

Requirements

• 6+ years of professional experience in network engineering or operations, including 3+ years designing production network architectures.
• Strong expertise in IP fabrics, Clos/spine-leaf designs, WAN and data center interconnects, MPLS, VPN, BGP, OSPF, L2/L3 switching, and enterprise routing.
• Hands-on experience with Palo Alto next-generation firewalls, policy lifecycle, segmentation, high availability, and secure connectivity.
• 3+ years of Azure or major cloud provider experience, with Azure networking strongly preferred, including VNets, ExpressRoute/VPN, hub-and-spoke, Private Link, NSGs, routing, load balancing, and DNS integration.
• 4+ years of experience with network automation, tooling, or open-source frameworks such as Ansible, Terraform, or Git-based workflows, plus programming experience in Python or another listed language.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience.

Nice to have

• CCIE, CCNP, Microsoft Azure Network Engineer Associate, PCNSE, or equivalent expertise.
• Experience with Arista, AWS, GCP, Cisco, IBM, Megaport, or Zscaler network technologies.
• Five-stage Clos experience and strong network observability design experience.
