What you will do

  • Prepare patients for ophthalmologist evaluations by collecting medical, ocular, medication, allergy, and visit histories.
  • Perform vision assessments and ophthalmic screenings, including visual acuity, lensometry, refractions, keratometry, pupil evaluation, intraocular pressure measurement, and drop instillation.
  • Conduct and assist with diagnostic tests and ocular imaging, including OCT, visual fields, fundus photography, topography, IOL master, K5, ultrasound scans, ERGs, and VEPs.
  • Assist with contact lens care, consent forms, in-office procedures, triage calls, and patient transfers.
  • Maintain exam rooms, instruments, supplies, equipment calibration, cleaning, and disinfection in accordance with recommendations.
  • Facilitate clinic flow, document examinations in the electronic health record, participate in clinical trials, and train new technicians.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant or Certified Retinal Angiographer certification.
  • Basic Life Support certification, or the ability to obtain it within three months of hire.
  • Two years of experience as an ophthalmic technician.
  • Knowledge of eye terminology, anatomy, physiology, ophthalmic diagnostic procedures, and electronic health records.
  • Ability to work with patients across age groups, including elderly, visually impaired, and sensory-impaired patients, in a fast-paced, high-volume clinic.

Nice to have

  • Optical Coherence Tomographer certification.
  • Bilingual communication skills.
